Mommy Makeover

Having a child is probably one of the most fulfilling experiences a person can have. Some women, however, feel self-conscious about the effects that pregnancy has had on their bodies. The stretching of the stomach muscles and skin, breasts, thighs, and other areas during pregnancy can lead to loose and sagging skin, stretch marks, and excess fat deposits. To counteract the effects of pregnancy on their bodies, some women choose to have a “Mommy Makeover.”

Mommy Makeover basically refers to a combination of post-pregnancy plastic surgery procedures, skin treatments, and or cellulite removal that a woman can use to help offset the effects of her appearance and to transform her body back to or close to its pre-pregnancy look.  These procedures are primarily meant to address the effects of pregnancy that cannot be reversed through diet and exercise.

There are many factors to consider before undergoing a mommy makeover, such as your current health and lifestyle, the areas of your body you want to target, and how post-pregnancy plastic surgery will affect your family life. If you have successfully lost weight after your pregnancy but cannot reverse stubborn pockets of fat and sagging skin, you are probably a good candidate for cosmetic procedures. You and Drill can decide how many and what kind of procedures you want to include in your makeover, and develop realistic expectations for your results.

Fat Removal through Liposuction

Eating for two may result in more weight gain than is ideal. Taking off this baby weight is difficult and can lead to certain problem areas that become resistant to post-partum weight loss. These areas typically include the abdomen, outer thighs (saddle bags), the hips, and back region.  Liposuction is an excellent option for mothers considering post-pregnancy plastic surgery. Liposuction can effectively remove pockets of fat that will not respond to a healthy diet and frequent exercise. New liposuction techniques also enable doctors to perform the procedure much more quickly and with less pain and bruising. So if all those crunches aren’t paying off, consider liposuction as a part of your mommy makeover.

Excess Skin Removal - Tummy Tuck

During a pregnancy, the skin and muscle tissue in the abdominal area will inevitably stretch, often causing a looser tummy. Sometimes even weight loss and rigorous strength training cannot help recapture that flat, firm tummy you had before pregnancy. A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, can restore a toned tummy by removing excess skin and tightening the abdominal muscles. A tummy tuck can be combined with fat removal and other post-pregnancy plastic surgery procedures for a more enhances appearance.

Dr. Brill can also perform other body lift procedures as a part of your mommy makeover, including an arm lift, thigh lift, and buttocks lift.

Breast Enlargement, Lift, and Reduction

Many women become unhappy with the shape and size of their breasts after having children, and look to post-pregnancy plastic surgery for help. Pregnancy can cause the breasts to sag and lose their former “perk,” and can also cause an increase or decrease in cup size. For women who want their breasts to look as good as they did before having kids, there are several types of breast surgery available, including breast augmentation with breast implants, breast reduction, and a breast lift. These procedures can be performed in addition to other fat reduction and lift procedures as part of a full mommy makeover.

Stretch Mark Removal

Stretch marks are another unfortunate side effect of the “labor of love” that is childbirth. Because the skin must expand so much during pregnancy, tiny tears form in the abdomen, thighs, and butt. Eventually these tears scar, causing permanent white, vein-like streaks to appear. Luckily, there are a number of cosmetic treatments specifically designed to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, including laser stretch mark removal. This process uses a beam of light to encourage new skin growth around the stretch marks, contributing to a more even, smooth appearance. Stretch mark removal is often included as a part of a mommy makeover in conjunction with post-pregnancy plastic surgery.
